"Win-Win Workplace Practices: The Study of Improved Organizational Results and Improved Quality of Life (September 2004)"
Authors: Patricia S. Reed and Shirley M. Clark

This paper seeks to provide to the public an understanding of the type of workplace that improves the employer’s bottom line and the employee’s quality of life. This study was conducted by identifying and synthesizing existing information on “family-friendly” practices in the United States in a variety of sectors of the economy, including large corporations, small and medium businesses, government, nonprofit and non-governmental organizations, and academic institutions. Supplemental interviews gave clear perspective to many of the issues and concerns in the workplace. Finding the solutions that create a win-win for employer and employee is challenging. Given the diverse nature of the workforce, there is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Despite these challenges, organizations can offer “family-friendly” benefits and demonstrate an employee-focused culture and still reap substantial financial rewards. The report highlights twelve case study examples.
